Disabled Workers: New ADA Guidance for Healthcare Industry

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has released a new fact sheet explaining how the Americans with Disabilities Act applies to job applicants and employees in the healthcare industry–the largest industry in the American economy. The new publication is the latest in a series of fact sheets on specific disabilities and industries. It is available on the agency’s website.

The fact sheet provides practical information on how the ADA applies in health care jobs in a variety of settings, including public and private hospitals and nursing care facilities, doctors’ and dentists’ offices, and diagnostic laboratories. The occupations addressed by the guidance include physicians, surgeons, dental hygienists and nurses, social workers, physical therapists, medical records clerks, laboratory technicians, paramedics, home health aides, and custodial and food service workers in medical facilities.
