Tree Company Pays $1.8 Million To Settle Overtime Charges

Following a U.S.
Department of Labor (DOL) investigation that found overtime violations under
the Fair Labor Standards Act, Houston-based ABC Professional Tree Services has
agreed to pay $1,801,507 in back wages. The investigation covered the period
from August 2004 to August 2006 and found that 2,501 current and former employees
working for the company in 16 states were not properly paid. ABC provides tree
cutting, tree trimming, and clean-up services around power lines for utility
companies, primarily during and after natural disasters. A portion of the back
wages will go to employees who worked for ABC in connection with the
destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina.
