Judge Approves $53.3 Million Settlement Of Of-The-Clock Suit

A federal judge has
approved a $53.3 million settlement of claims that grocer Albertsons Inc. didn’t
pay overtime and forced employees to work “off the clock.” Approximately 7,000
employees in several states, including California,
will receive an average $7,000 payout. Plus, the court ordered Albertsons to
pay $6.5 million in attorney’s fees. Albertsons’ parent company, Supervalu,
stated that the settlement “is in the best interests of the company and our
associates,” and that the company “is committed to full compliance with all
laws governing the workplace. We expect that all associates will be fully paid
for all work performed and that no work will be performed off the clock.”
