We’re hiring maid staff for our hotel. Is there a specific type of background check we should perform? We’re looking to do the minimum possible while still being responsible.
For any employment position, you should at least verify the candidate’s work history. Whether you do it in-house or outsource it, verifying past employment establishes due diligence, is defensible in court, and sheds light on the applicant’s integrity. We also recommend checking for felonies and misdemeanors in at least the person’s county of residence, although it is a best practice to check all counties where the applicant has lived, worked, and studied over the last seven years.
