A manager or supervisor who wants to terminate an employee should avoid taking hasty action. They should first determine whether there are any reasonable, less-drastic alternatives to firing the employee. But even if they’re sure termination is the best course of action, it’s generally better to let a group—including HR as well as other managers and/or legal advisors—make the final decision.
In this video, BLR’s Steve Bruce, PhD., PHR, explains the reasons and outlines the factors the group should consider before reaching a final decision to terminate. The video is part of BLR’s HR Daily Advisor “Firing 101” (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5VHkou71-xzz4u-eB9vh2K3IehYCfS2O) series.
