They say a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but these days the same can be said about the workplace. According to a recent survey, approximately 60 percent of employees have reported that receiving food or restaurant vouchers makes them feel happy and appreciated.
In 2013, 5 percent of employees said they received regular lunches from their company, but this year that number has jumped to 11 percent. There has also been a rise in employee relationships that is linked to eating with colleagues. In 2013, 43 percent of employees said they felt they had a better relationship with colleagues after having a company lunch. This year the number has increased to 50 percent.
All this talk about food brings up the subject of exercise. According to the survey, people still feel that the best perk in the office is a gym membership! For employees who have neither perk, 38 percent would prefer a gym membership over the 28 percent who would rather have food. So let this be a lesson—food may be good for the work environment, but employees are looking for perks that they can’t eat!
