Pests can cause some people to just plain “bug out,” so I bet companies like Orkin don’t have people busting down the doors to get a job. Employers may face a challenge in hiring people for an industry where many people would rather have someone else kill the giant spider. So what does a company that specializes in pest control do to attract new employees?
They sponsor a Pestaurant and job fair to offer the public an opportunity to sample some insects and to raise awareness on pest control. The Ehrlich Pest Control company has come up with this genius way to attract all types of applicants. The event is a global trend that has occurred in all of their locations, all over the world.
The Pestaurant will feature an insect-only menu consisting of “roasted crickets, roasted mealworms, scorpion lollipops, and ant lollipops.” At a previous Pestaurant event, Ehrlich donated $5 to the DC Central Kitchen, Inc., for every person who ate something. As well as sampling some rare delicacies, attendees can also have a “pest selfie” taken. Previous events featured a giant cardboard cutout of a fly for people to stand behind and see what they would look like as the bug.
Even though this event seems like it would attract curiosity rather than job applicants, they are excepting applications for various positions. Also, members of the Ehrlich staff will be on hand to answer anyone’s questions about pest problems; and there will be a contest to win a free home inspection. This “job fair” seems more like a circus, but at least Ehrlich is thinking of interesting ways to increase their workforce!
Maybe they could attract people with an “eat what you kill” policy.
