Beginning August 1, federal contractors must use the new VETS-4212 report to provide information to the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) about their affirmative action efforts in employing veterans.
The VETS-4212 report replaces the VETS-100 and VETS-100A forms required by the regulations implementing the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA) that became final in September 2014.
Contractors will use the VETS-4212 form to report the aggregate number of protected veterans who are newly hired and employed. The old forms required contractors to report on each specific category of protected veterans. With the new form, employers no longer will have to invite postoffer applicants to identify themselves using the individual categories of protected veterans, including special disabled veterans, recently separated veterans, and other protected veterans.
With the new form, contractors will have the option of inviting pre- and postoffer applicants and employees to self-identify as protected veterans. As a result of the change, a protected veteran will be counted only once rather than for each individual category in which she identifies.
For more information on the new reporting form, see the June issue of Federal Employment Law Insider. The DOL has also posted a page with information about the filing.
