Have you ever been at a store and witnessed someone else’s child having a complete meltdown over something they want, but their parents won’t give in and get it for them? And you think to yourself, “Glad that’s not my kid!”
Well, as it turns out, that tantrum-throwing child could turn out to be the next Donald Trump, or Bill Gates, or even Mark Zuckerberg! According to a recent study published in Developmental Psychology, bratty kids could make more money as adults than well-behaved children.
In 1968, a group of scientists studied 745 children and their behaviors over the course of 40 years. In 2008, the scientists checked back in with the kids, now adults, to see if their behaviors as a child impacted their career achievements as adults.
They discovered that the kids who displayed unruly behavior and defied authority earned more as adults than kids who followed the rules and played it safe! The research suggests that the defiant traits of the children allowed them to be more assertive as adults, especially when it came to asking for raises and being more excited about their personal success.
We all want our children to succeed in life, but maybe it’s a good idea to teach our children how to be assertive, without being a brat!
I love to know if Zuckerberg or Gates were tantrum throwers. I think we can assume Trump was/is.
So useful article! All parents need to read it! Thank you so much for your sharing!
