HR Strange But True

Give Me All the Money from the Register … And a Job

Desperate times call for desperate measures, but sometimes sheer stupidity gets in the way! Case in point: A robbery suspect returned to the scene of the crime to apply for a job.robbery

KIRO7 out of Tulsa, Oklahoma, reported that a man robbed a Tulsa Jack in the Box and implied that he had a gun. After he robbed the restaurant, the man went to a nearby beauty supply store and robbed that company, too.

The robber allegedly told employees of the beauty store that he wanted cash, had a gun in his pocket, and didn’t want any trouble. Shortly after holding up the beauty store, the man returned to the Jack in the Box to pick up a job application. While waiting for the application, employees recognized the man as the earlier thief and called police. The employees detained the robber until police could arrive, where he was arrested. Needless to say, I don’t think the restaurant gave him the job!

This isn’t the first time someone’s done something dumb in the hopes of landing a job—HRSBT has reported in the past on a potential job candidate stealing a family photo off an interviewer’s desk. The candidate then put the photo in her purse; it’s unclear if she got the job, but we’re assuming she didn’t.

At the end of 2016, a man in Japan stole an interviewer’s wallet right out of her purse after she left the room to talk to a coworker. And that’s not all—a man applying to be a taxi cab driver showed up to his interview drunk! Have you ever experienced anything is bizarre when it comes to people applying for a position within your company? If so, share it in our comments section below, or e-mail us, and it could be featured in the next HRSBT!
