HR Strange But True

SBT Readers Share Their Own Experiences with Tardy Employees

In the beginning of March, we reported on CareerBuilder’s annual survey about strange reasons for being late for work. Among the weirdest of excuses: waking up in someone else’s yard, a cat stuck in the toilet, and thinking Halloween was a work holiday.

We asked you to submit your own experiences with tardy employees and received a few tales. Here are the top two.

#1:

“Had an employee state one time that he had a dream his days off where changed. I told him I had a dream he was AWOL. Lol.”

And #2:

“Employee drove five miles from home to go for a run. He only took his phone when he got out of the car, he locked his keys and wallet in his car. Called pop-a-lock, they came but he said it took him an hour to convince them it was his car but could not prove it because his wallet was in the car. He never thought to use his cell phone to call work to say he’d be late.”

Thanks for sharing your stories; we always enjoy hearing from readers!
