110-Year-Old’s VA Pension Increases

By Kyle Emshwiller

A 110-year-old woman had been receiving a $36 monthly pension for her husband’s military service. Her husband, a WWI veteran, had died in the 1970s.

The woman’s son told NBC News that he applied for a higher veteran survivor benefit amount in 2008. Earlier this year, with the help of a state representative, the woman’s benefit got a boost. Instead of a $36 check every month, she’ll get $1,000!

The woman, one of the oldest people in Pennsylvania, needs the money to pay for the personal care home she has resided in the last 5 years.

In addition to the monthly increase, the 110-year-old widow will reportedly receive $25,000 in back pay for the time it took to wait for a decision on the claim.
