HR Strange But True

Employees Flyin’ High for Going ‘Above and Beyond’

Ten US Airways employees are flyin’ high this holiday season—and no, it’s not from imbibing at the company party. These employees went “above and beyond” delivering outstanding service to not only the airline’s customers, but to fellow colleagues—and some took home $10,000!

According to a press release, the Above and Beyond (A&B) program allows US Airways’ most frequent flyers and its employees at the managerial level and above to submit coupons recognizing employees for providing excellent customer service in the air and on the ground. All coupons received are entered in a drawing, and each quarter US Airways awards:

  • 10 employees $10,000 each,
  • 100 employees $1,000 each, and
  • 250 employees $250 each.

Since the program’s inception in 2006, the airline has received more than 285,000 A&B coupons and has awarded nearly $7 million to more than 8,750 of its 32,000 employees.

Among those winning the latest $10K awards are a mechanic at New York’s LaGuardia Airport who expedited aircraft engine panel repairs and avoided a flight delay and cancellation and a Charlotte, North Carolina, LAN support technician who helped bring the New Orleans station back online after Hurricane Isaac.
