HR Strange But True

What a Job Description—Spokesmodel and Garbage Sorter

Seems the job description for a model has changed. On America’s Next Top Model, Tyra Banks and cohorts selected the winning contestant/applicant based on posing ability and fashion sense. But on VH1’s new reality show, Model Employee, the winner may be judged on other skills entirely!

Applicants must pass a rigorous physical and mental selection process—think The Right Stuff. And rather than specific occupations, Mars One is looking more for people with “real-world” experience who are brave and who like challenges.

The premise of the new show is to pick the “new face” for a resort/casino in Las Vegas.  But according to a press release, the interview process will be “an arduous journey” where applicants will have to “get their hands dirty.”

The employers want the spokesmodels to “know their brand inside and out.” So the contestants will have to display skills in actual jobs at the facility, from bussing tables to sorting garbage for recycling to cleaning out the shark tank.

The show, featuring eight applicants vying for the job, premiered May 8.
