Supplying additional information to a potential employer is a good idea, but recently an applicant sent way too much personal information to HR.
The St. Charles Patch reports that the HR manager of a company in Illinois received several job applications regarding an opening, and a conditional offer was made to one applicant in his 20s.
A few days later, the manager, who was a woman, received a text with a nude picture of a man; then a day later, a second one arrived! The manager recorded the cell phone number.
A few days later, the winning applicant called the HR manager to further discuss the job. The manager noticed that the cell phone number matched the one on the naked texts! She immediately called the cops. When the police contacted the man, he was totally mortified. Obviously, the naked selfies were intended for someone else.
Accepting the explanation for the lewdness, the HR manager did not press charges, but unsurprisingly, the job offer was rescinded. Oh yes, the police told the man never to contact that HR department again.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the town police report learning about increased instances of young people texting “inappropriate” photos of themselves, often resulting in “sexting-related mishaps” such as this. So job applicants should take a cue from celebrities and politicians who were recently disgraced by naked selfies—don’t send them!
