Which is faring better in today’s health insurance market—health reimbursement arrangements or health savings accounts? To find out, United Benefits Advisors (UBA) surveyed more than 10,000 employers representing more than 5 million total lives for its special report, 2015 Health Plan Survey, “HSAs and HRAs: How They’re Doing. UBA broke out the survey data on how employers are using HSAs and HRAs by employer size, region, and industry.
According to a spotlight report on the survey, one major finding was that the number of employer health insurance plans offering an HSA or an HRA is decreasing significantly. The survey found that nationwide in 2015, 23.9% of all health insurance plans offered an HRA or HSA in 2015, a significant (29%) decrease from 2014.
Enrollment and contributions to these plans varied wildly based on employer size, industry, and region, the UBA report finds.
