Make sure your coffeepot station is fully stocked because September 29 is National Coffee Day, and according to a recent survey, your employees are willing to do just about anything to make sure they don’t have to give up their favorite beverage!
According to the Staples Business Advantage survey, nearly one-third of employees said they would rather streak naked through the main street of their town than give up coffee for a year. The survey also found that more than half of those polled also confessed they would give up sweets over coffee forever. Also, a quarter of employees said they would go without their smartphone for eternity if that meant they could keep coffee. Not even annual vacation time is safe, as 24% would relinquish their yearly time off in favor of access to coffee.
“Drinking coffee is engrained in the daily routine of the U.S. workforce—59 percent drink at least two cups daily—and many consider it essential for them to do their work at a high level,” said Kerry Anne Carter, vice president, Staples Business Advantage. “Taking the initiative to provide free coffee options and a welcoming breakroom can go a long way toward keeping employees happy and productive.”
Other insights into the coffee survey include:
- On average, employees consume two cups of coffee each day.
- 35% of employees need at least one cup to feel productive or alert during the day.
- Tasks that can’t be handled until an employee has his or her first cup of the day included thinking, talking to anyone, and commuting to work.
With all this talk on employee engagement, it sounds like the first step to keeping a happy workforce is to make sure your office has a good coffee setup! The infographic below highlights more findings from this survey.
