Hiring Trends: Demand for Mobile Developers Signals Corporate Shift in Online Engagement

Randstad Technologies, a leading technology talent and solutions provider in the U.S. with headquarters in the Boston metro area, has seen a surge in demand in the market for mobile development skills, with a year-over-year increase in demand of 99% from 2014 to 2016. An expert in finding experienced and highly qualified talent in this sector, Randstad Technologies has increased its mobility talent placement rate in the region by 283% year-over-year.

technologyAs consumers increasingly rely on smartphones and tablets for information and tasks, businesses of all sizes—particularly in industries such as hospitality, restaurants, and consumer goods—are dedicating resources to enhance mobile apps and optimize online presence with mobile responsive website design. According to Cisco Systems, there will be 5.5 billion mobile users globally by 2020. Just in the U.S., the number of mobile-connected devices will increase from 447 million in 2015 to 947 million in 2020.

“People expect to be able to use untethered technology, and CIOs and IT managers are responding,” said Matt Conley, managing director at Randstad Technologies. “Randstad Technologies is committed to helping our customers with their mobile and modern web development initiatives, whether it’s finding the most qualified talent (we have placed talent at a 121% year-over-year increase 2014-2016) or bringing in our team of experts to manage and execute the entire project.”

Additionally, with much of the workforce going mobile, sales and service personnel are more frequently conducting business using a mobile device rather than a desktop. Internal tools, such as intranets and sales portals that are responsive and efficient, are also vital for keeping companies competitive.

CIO’s 16th annual State of the CIO survey found that 18% of CIOs at enterprise-sized organizations expect to have difficulty finding IT talent with appropriate skillsets in mobile technologies. Seventeen percent indicated that finding talent with application development experience would also be challenging this year.

Randstad Technologies has found it is no longer just corporate IT departments that want to enhance their mobile presence—marketing, sales, Human Resources, and even business intelligence teams are requesting mobile responsive web design to improve various business functions.
