Most people in the United States believe they deserve a raise (89 percent) but would rather do onerous activities than actually request one, according to a survey by staffing firm Robert Half.

What would workers rather do than ask for a raise?
- Clean the house (32 percent)
- Look for a new job (13 percent)
- Get a root canal (7 percent)
- Be audited by the IRS (6 percent)
In fact, more workers are comfortable speaking in public (66 percent) than asking for a raise (56 percent)!
Ironically, just over half of the 1,000+ currently employed full-time office workers who were surveyed say they are planning to ask for a raise this year.
And, only 19 percent indicated that they would look for a new job if their request for a raise was turned down.
Wow! It’s kind of worrisome if employees are reluctant to ask because they see their employer as adversarial. Employees who think their employers are fair should be confident about requesting a raise they believe they deserve.
