Discriminating against people with disabilities is illegal and there are many state and federal laws that serve to shield this protected group from discriminatory practices. While there are always going to be those bad actors that purposefully discriminate against people with disabilities, new research shows widespread accidental discrimination occurring because of a simple oversight: career sites that are not accessible. Is your organization also accidentally discriminating against people with disabilities?
Digital accessibility has been a critical tool for recruiting, yet many organizations fail to take accessibility into consideration when designing their career pages. Research conducted by Phenom People sought to analyze the accessibility of all Fortune 100 companies’ career sites. They used a six point standard known as Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to audit the career sites. What they found was that 89 companies failed on at least one point of WCAG.
