Here are the top three e-learning trends you’ll want to know about for 2019.

1. Video-Based Learning

Cisco predicts that video content will account for over 80% of all Internet traffic by 2021. So, like it or not, your learners will be scanning video content across the Web on a daily basis from their mobile devices. And you’ll have to compete with that fact if you want to capture and retain their attention spans for workplace learning via mobile devices.
Video content is also becoming much easier and less expensive to develop and share due to newer platforms and technologies that are on the market. And some research has even shown that video content can be better for knowledge retention.

2. AI-Enhanced Deep Learning Tools for Adaptive Learning

In 2019, learning and development professionals will see even more sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and programs inside their learning management systems (LMS) and platforms.
First, you will need to be sure that your AI-driven platforms are trained properly so that they can properly train your employees on a more automated basis. You’ll want to make sure they’re unbiased and flexible and that they can understand natural language.
And then, you’ll want to make sure they’re able to execute deep learning, where they rely on big data and predictive data analytics to execute even more personalized and enhanced adaptive learning experiences inside your LMS. Adaptive learning tools will become essential in 2019 and beyond and will embody the future of e-learning, as well as learning across the workplace.

3. Even More Sophisticated Gamified Training Content Across Devices and Platforms

Gamified content was at one time only accessible on a desktop computer. Now, gamified learning content will be able to really take off with the growing popularity of mobile learning platforms and virtual-reality equipment and platforms.
Gamified learning or game-based learning content engages learners and keeps them learning on a rolling basis and consistently yields high knowledge-retention rates. It also allows learners to socialize with one another and interact with one another as they learn in a fun and virtual environment and receive immediate feedback.
Gamified e-learning content will only grow in popularity and sophistication in the future, too, as it becomes less expensive and continues to yield positive returns on investment for organizations of all sizes.
As you fine-tune your e-learning systems, content, and strategies for 2019, be sure to keep the above three trends at the top of your radar.
