Can AI Help Demonstrate Business Impact of Training?

Artificial intelligence (AI) represents the ability to leverage technology in ways that allow that technology to learn and improve over time. Already, in markets like manufacturing, AI is being used to streamline processes and perform tasks that can free up employees to focus on higher-impact work.
In HR, AI has been identified as a tool that could have some positive impacts in hiring, for instance, where technology could be used both to screen candidates and, potentially, to help select them.
But, once on board, AI could also have a role to play in learning and development (L&D).

Overcoming the Fear

It’s understandable that employees may feel a bit fearful of AI. Many employees in a variety of industries fear AI could make their jobs so easy that they may no longer be needed. Most experts argue, though, that this is not likely to be the case—that, in fact, employees will benefit from AI by being able to focus on higher-level, more meaningful work.
One way to both introduce employees to the potential of AI and help them better understand how it might benefit them is by using the technology in L&D activities.

AI in L&D

Companies today are not using AI to do the jobs of their employees—they’re using it to train them to do their jobs better and more efficiently.
For example, iCOG, an assisted learning intelligence platform, is being used by Skilldom, a company in Mumbai, both to train employees and to assess the effectiveness of that training. According to a YourStory article, “Recent data captured by iCOG shows a five-fold increase in the overall engagement to learning.”
One of the challenges that L&D professionals have long faced is the ability to demonstrate the real business impacts of their training efforts. As Skilldom’s experience indicates, AI may hold promise here.
Not certain how AI might help to boost your L&D activities, or maybe not entirely sure you understand the concepts behind AI at all? Google recently introduced a free AI development course that can give you the background and insights you need.
